An inquest has opened into the death of a man with a 'complex medical history' who died after contracting sepsis following surgery in hospital.
John Bethell, 34, was admitted to Manchester Royal Infirmary on April 23 of this year and underwent surgery, Manchester Coroner's Court heard.
Mr Bethell became unwell with sepsis after the procedure and died on June 13. The opening heard how Mr Bethell's family had shared concerns over his care following the operation to insert a Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG).
Area coroner Zak Golombeck said post mortem examinations suggested the medical cause of death was a pulmonary embolism - a sudden blockage in the pulmonary arteries - due to multiple surgeries.
