Man, 29, arrested as police probe 'wilful' fire at Kilmarnock house

A man has been arrested after an early morning house fire in Kilmarnock. Emergency services were called to the scene on Sutherland Drive, in the New Farm Loch area, at around 6.35am on Tuesday, January 21.

No one was injured by the fire which was quickly brought under control by firefighters but police are treating the incident as "wilful" and a 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection.

Firefighters from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service discovered a "well-developed fire" on the ground floor of the house and had to call in backup to tackle it.

In total, three crews attended the incident and police cordoned off the street.Parents on the school run at Kilmarnock Academy, New Farm Loch Primary and James Hamilton Primary at the William McIlvanney Campus were forced to find an alternative route to school while the fire was extinguished.
