Roast potatoes are a staple of British cuisine, particularly during the festive season. However, many of us may not be making the most of our spuds.Despite our best culinary efforts, it appears that a large number of us have been preparing roast potatoes incorrectly for years.
Chef Kelly Scott, also known as @kellyscleankitchen on TikTok, has debunked a common myth about roasting potatoes.Contrary to popular belief, frying the potatoes first to achieve a "super crispy" texture is not necessary.
Instead, the chef suggests a simple trick to ensure perfect roasties every time.In a video tutorial, she explained: "These are burnished potatoes, a rosemary and garlic British potato.
That's the crispiest russet potato ever, and the key is to first boil them in water for three to five minutes before roasting them."She continued: "This isn't to cook them or anything, but it removes the excess starch, because white potatoes are super starchy, which can lead to a soggy and gummy potato, which is why you boil them first.".The boiling process eliminates surface starch, allowing the potatoes to become extremely crispy in the oven.
