Major busy Scots road closed in both directions as lorry catches fire

A lorry has caught fire on a busy Scots road causing traffic to halt in both directions.Emergency services raced to the A77 near Ballantrae, Ayrshire, just before 8pm to shut down the road in both directions.Traffic Scotland took to social media to warn drivers of the incident and advise them to use alternative routes.They said: "The A77 South of Ballantrae is CLOSED in both directions South of Stinchar Bridge due to a vehicle fire.

Emergency services remain at the scene."The trunk road links Ayrshire to Stranraer and the south west, as well as access to Cairnryan ferry port.Motorists are being left with over 50 miles worth of diversions for anyone leaving Stranraer northbound, southbound or ferry traffic wanting to head north.Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they received a call about a HGV fire at around 7.55pm tonight.
