A stretch of the M62 remains fully shut this afternoon hours after a man tragically died. The man - a pedestrian - was struck by a car on the motorway between junction 11 and 12 at around 12.15am today (Tuesday), Greater Manchester Police said.
He was sadly pronounced dead on the scene. A 25-year-old man, who remained on the scene, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken into custody.
Both sides of the motorway have been closed off since the early hours of this morning. Severe delays remain up to the closure, while the surrounding roads near the closure in Eccles, Cadishead, Irlam and Wigan are extremely congested.
