M&S mocked for selling ‘pointless’ strawberry clotted cream for scones

How do you like your scones? For decades, foodies have debated whether you should put jam above or below clotted cream. And let’s not even get into the whole Cornwall and Devon argument.

Marks and Spencer attempted to solve this problem by launching strawberry-flavoured clotted cream in supermarkets. Instead of choosing the order you apply jam and cream, you can simply put one spread on.

But sadly, M&S’ idea didn’t go down as well as product creators were imagining. More than 1,900 M&S customers liked a Facebook picture of the fruity cream – but scores of people who commented on the post were less than impressed.

Some accused the supermarket of ruining the perfection of traditional afternoon tea. One responder wrote: “Wrong, totally wrong.
