A senior hotelier has predicted job losses and a “slow and gradual” recovery for his industry following lockdown. Adrian Ellis - who chairs the Manchester Hoteliers’ Association (MHA) - says it could be around 12 months before the sector returns to form.
He predicts that apprehension around air travel could damage the international market, while job losses and “extensive downsizing” may be likely across the industry if the furloughing scheme does not continue.
Mr Ellis - who is also the general manager of the 5* Lowry Hotel - believes “initial progress will be slow and gradual, forming a ‘U-shaped’ recovery”.
