Lorry drivers face being stuck in Britain over Christmas after a Tory minister admitted they will take “a few days” to get home.

Robert Jenrick confessed around 4,000 trucks are now stuck in government systems in and around Kent - including almost 3,000 at Manston Airport.

The chaos erupted after France imposed a two-day shutdown of the English Channel crossing to stop a faster-spreading new variant of coronavirus.

Last night the UK and France reached a deal to reopen the Channel crossings for truckers; others travelling for urgent reasons; and French citizens or residents.
