Liverpool No2 Pep Ljinders has explained why the Premier League champions did not strengthen in two key areas in the summer transfer window.
The Reds made it clear they would not be making any mega-money signings this summer, with Jurgen Klopp the club could not "behave like Chelsea".
And Liverpool's transfer approach has been relatively low-key compared to that of their rivals. Chelsea have splashed around £250million on the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell, while Manchester United have spent the summer chasing £108m man Jadon Sancho - so far in vain.
In contrast, Liverpool have spent £27m to sign Thiago Alcantara, who can add competition to a midfield featuring Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and Fabinho.
