Lionel Messi's father is on his way to Spain for showdown talks with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu aimed at securing his son's departure to Manchester City.
Jorge Messi, who acts as his son's representative, boarded a private jet from his home city Rosario this morning. Reports in Argentina suggest that he will meet Bartomeu on Wednesday and will tell the beleaguered Barca chief that there is no going back on the stance being taken by the six-time Ballon d'Or winner to quit the Nou Camp.
Messi's camp believe a clause in the player's contract enables him to leave the Catalan club for nothing. And the 33-year-old wants to be granted the freedom to link up again with Pep Guardiola in Manchester.
