An attempt at humour during this morning's BBC Breakfast broadcast (November 3) resulted in an awkward TV moment. BBC Breakfast's red sofa played host to anchors Luxmy Gopal and Ben Thompson as they queued up a segment with political journalist Laura Kuenssberg.

The broadcaster was discussing her soon-to-be-aired programme, Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, following the announcement of a new Tory leader.

As they introduced the political editor, Ben commented: "Good morning! Two big heavyweights with you in the studio," referencing guests slated to appear on Laura's show.

Seizing the opportunity for a joke off Ben's 'heavyweight' remark, Laura took a playful jab at the duo by saying 'that's not you two'. "Certainly, and I was going to say that's not you two in the studio on the sofa there," Laura quipped before erupting into laughter, only to be met with silence from the BBC Breakfast set, reports the Express.
