Larkhall YMCA Harriers held their annual Christmas Novelty Handicap race last month, one of the longest-running races in the club’s history.The second race of their Road Race Championships on Saturday, December 17, saw runners of all ages pounding the streets of Larkhall.Dating back to 1933, the race back then followed a longer course that went behind the Radstone Hotel and crossed where the M74 motorway stands now.A more modern course has been adapted and shortened and is a hilly 2.25-mile track within Larkhall, though it starts and finishes at the same points as it always has.Harriers’ junior athletes also took part in a fun, one-mile race around Larkhall.Taking home the trophies were Dean Hill (fastest senior male) in 15.45, and Julie Hill (fastest senior female) in 16.51.Winner of the senior handicap race was Willie Thomson, with a time of 14.14.In the junior race, fastest overall boy was under-15 Aaron Scott in 5.38, and fastest girl was U13 Lacie McNulty in 6.19.The full results were:Junior race: Aaron Scott (5.38), Liam McCready (6.08), Lacie McNulty (6.19), Sophie Brennan (6.35), George Brown (6.43), Michael Marden (6.47), Emma Dooey (6.48), Katie McReady (6.56), Emily Thomson (7.16), Gavin Lee (7.17), Ross Kinkade (8.14), Josh Holland (8.15), Aimee Davidson (9.00), Drew Reid (10.20).Senior Race: Dean Hill (15.45), Julie Hill (16.51), Rhys Thomson (17.11), Willie Thomson (17.14), Jackie McMaster (21.33), Ted Zokas (22.11), Nathan Dooey (22.26), John Dalton (26.35).Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onX via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
