Lanarkshire MP calls on departing Prime Minister to reject future payments

A Lanarkshire MP has written to the outgoing Prime Minister questioning whether she plans to accept a severance payment of up to £115,000 per year on leaving office after just six weeks.

Anum Qaisar told Liz Truss that her constituents are “horrified at your fiscal mismanagement of the economy that has brought them untold hardship”, and says that it would be “morally reprehensible” if the country’s shortest-serving leader made use of the payments.

The Airdrie & Shotts representative noted that the Conservative leader’s speedy resignation came “during a time of economic hardship” and referred in her letter to constituents struggling with the rising cost of living impacting on payments for energy, housing and food.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
