Thania Garcia Audiences watching the “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert” were perhaps expecting Lady Gaga to sing one of her new singles for the long-anticipated occasion, or the musical kick-off for the weekend that culminate with the 50th anniversary special airing on NBC on Sunday.
The reality was Bradley Cooper — wait, no — that was Andy Samberg in a wig and a cowboy hat singing with Gaga. The pair started a cover of Gaga and Cooper’s “Star Is Born” hit, “Shallow,” until it eventually detoured into “Dick in a Box.” The comedic single became a staple of “Saturday Night Live” history thanks to The Lonely Island, featuring Justin Timberlake, who wasn’t in attendance on Friday night. “Justin’s not here to do his parts!” Samberg exclaimed.
Gaga responded, “Andy, Don’t be a bitch. I’ll do it with you.” With Gaga on piano, the duo sang a dramatic rendition of “Dick in a Box” that turned into a blistering medley featuring everyone from T-Pain to Bad Bunny.
Joined by Chris Parnell, Samberg and crew free-styled through the instrumental of Kendrick Lamar’s “TV Off” — complete with Parnell yelling “Mustard!” The star-studded “Homecoming Concert,” hosted by Jimmy Fallon, has a lineup that also features Post Malone, Mumford & Sons, Jack White, David Byrne, Robyn, Chris Martin, Cher, Dave Grohl, Ms.
