The Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright held its Youth Speaks competition recently. An appreciative audience was informed and entertained during 13 presentations from Kirkcudbright Academy pupils.
The venue was the impressive Cochran Hall and the talks featured an eclectic range of topics including My Bad Luck on the Stage and Women in Aviation.
Hazel Dempster won the junior S1 to S3 section on the subject The Art of Public Speaking. Lucy Davies won the senior S4 to S6 competition speaking about Britain and the Weather.
In announcing the awards, lead judge Richard Ryall commended all speakers for their efforts and passion for their chosen subjects.
