King visits peat bog in Scottish Highlands that's been given world heritage site status

The King is set to explore a huge bog in the Highlands of Scotland which has recently been awarded world heritage site status.On Wednesday, Charles made his way to the immense stretch of peatland at Forsinard Flows, located in Forsinard, Sutherland.This area is believed to hold approximately 400 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, surpassing the amount stored by all woodlands across the UK.Renowned as possibly the most extensive expanse of blanket bog on the planet, the Flow Country spans around 1,500 square miles within the Highlands.On July 26, Unesco (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) acknowledged the significance of this region, bestowing upon it the title of the UK's 35th world heritage site, and Scotland's seventh.A passionate advocate for the natural world and patron of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), Charles will engage with representatives from the charity, NatureScot which spearheaded the Unesco recognition campaign and Highland Council.
