King Charles was left heartbroken after receiving the devastating news of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II's passing.
On her final day, Charles rushed to be by her side, joined by his wife Camilla.They took a helicopter from Ayrshire, where they were on royal duties, at 9.30am on September 8, 2022, covering the 150-mile journey to Balmoral.
During the flight, it is believed that Charles read his briefing papers for the last time as a prince and made four important phone calls - to Prince William, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Prince Harry, instructing them to head for Scotland.
By 10.30am, Charles had reached nearby Birkhall - his and Camilla's cosy retreat - and borrowed a Land Rover from a staff member to drive to Balmoral, where he was able to spend an hour at the Queen's bedside.
