The wedding of the future King Charles to the 20-year-old Lady Diana Spencer made headlines all over the world, with the ceremony being watched by millions of people.
Their engagement had been announced on February 24, 1981 and the big day itself took place just months later at St Paul's Cathedral on July 29.
While the marriage was to face many trials, it has been claimed by a friend of the late Princess that a conversation had between the soon-to-be married couple the night before the ceremony had left Diana "devastated" and wanting to call off the big day.
According to Diana's friend and astrologer, Penny Thornton, Charles had told her that he "did not want to go into the marriage on a false premise" and that he didn't love her.
