Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said he is aiming to ‘bring immigration down’ to levels seen while Britain was an EU member during a visit to Brexit-backing Bolton.
Sir Keir was visiting the Greater Manchester town this morning (June 4) ahead of the first TV leadership debate with Conservative counterpart Rishi Sunak, which is taking place at 9pm in Salford’s MediaCity tonight.
The Labour hopeful was speaking to journalists in the Bridge Cafe in Bolton town centre, PA reports, when he made his comments.
They came in response to the Prime Minister's pledge to introduce an annual cap on worker and family visas in their efforts to ensure immigration figures fall year on year.
