Kate Garraway has shared the sad reason she almost decided not to air her latest documentary about her late husband Derek Draper, who passed away in January after a four-year battle with the effects of Covid.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 56, and her husband of almost 20 years had been filming the documentary to show his care and progress before he died earlier this year.The new ITV show, Derek's Story, gave viewers a glimpse into Derek's difficult final year with his family as he battled the devastating effects of his illness.The former political lobbyist, 56, was taken to hospital in mid 2020 after catching Covid-19 and his condition became so serious that he remained there for over a year.
As well as spending some of that time in a coma, the virus caused also caused such severe health problems that he was never able to fully recover from.
Sadly, just when he seemed to be getting better, he had a heart attack in December 2023 and was rushed to hospital where he suffered from bleeding and haemorrhaging before he passed away in early January.
