Jurgen Klopp has called for a U-turn over the five substitutes rule to stop players suffering burnout this season. Liverpool are one of the clubs pushing for a rethink at this Thursday’s Premier League meeting which would allow top flight clubs to use more players in a truncated season.
Premier League clubs voted 13-7 earlier this month to revert back to three substitutes but Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are understood to be pushing for a new vote.
They will discuss the matter again this week and Klopp insists it is not being done just to favour big clubs but to stop the fear of players suffering injuries in a squeezed fixture list because of the coronavirus pandemic.
