Manchester United may have shortlisted Jude Bellingham as one of Ralf Rangnick’s top transfer targets for the summer, but the Borussia Dortmund starlet’s stance on a move to Old Trafford could give them reason to look elsewhere. The central midfielder has emerged as one of the most promising youngsters in Europe after his meteoric rise over the past two years. It is no surprise then that interim coach Rangnick included Bellingham on his list of targets when meeting with United chiefs John Murtough and Darren Fletcher in December.United’s decision not to sign a central midfielder in January has led some to suggest the club could launch a move for Bellingham in the summer, copying their £73million move for Jadon Sancho in July. But footage merged on social media of his response to a fan’s question, which summarised his feelings on a potential switch to Old Trafford. The 18-year-old was asked whether he would be joining the club anytime soon after posing for a picture with a fan.Noticing he had been ambushed, Bellingham made a quick exit while laughing, before appearing to mutter: “Don’t be silly.”A throwaway comment that could have easily been made in jest may not concern too many Man United fans, considering that the club may be able to persuade Bellingham to make a big-money switch in the summer. But if it is his genuine opinion, it would serve as a blow to the Red Devils’ transfer plans if Bellingham is not interested in a move back to England.
Rangnick refused to deny his interest in the box-to-box midfielder and revealed he extensively scouted the player when he was manager of RB Leipzig.HAVE YOUR SAY: Who should Manchester United bring in if they cannot sign Jude Bellingham?
