Nick Montgomery has challenged Josh Campbell to try and force his way into Scotland’s Euro 2024 squad after grabbing his opportunity at Hibs.
The midfielder was left out of the starting XI for Montgomery’s first nine games in charge as the new boss ripped up the system at Easter Road.But Campbell knuckled down and after getting to grips with the shape favoured by the new regime has started the last three matches.
A goal in the 2-2 draw with St Mirren was followed up by the winner against Kilmarnock and Campbell again caused Dundee problems in Saturday’s 2-1 win in Tayside that lifted Hibs into fifth position.The 23-year-old hobbled off after an hour at Dens but is expected to be fit to face Aberdeen on Sunday.
Montgomery reckons Campbell is fast becoming a key man in his side after waiting for his opportunity - and that he should be looking to catch Steve Clarke’s eye with the countdown on to Germany 2024.He said: “Josh is a great example of someone waiting for their chance.
