Steve Clarke has lined up a clash with the Netherlands as he fine tunes his preparations for Euro 2024.The Scotland boss will take his team to Amsterdam for a Friday night friendly on March 22 as the countdown begins to his summer’s tournament in Germany.
Clarke also hopes to arrange another warm up match at Hampden the following week before facing two final fixtures in June ahead of a mouthwatering Group A opener against Germany in Munich on the 14th.Clarke is now working towards naming a 23 man squad for the finals but that will not include call-ups for Newcastle trio Elliott Anderson, Anthony Gordon or Tino Livramento who have all been linked with a possible defection from England.
The manager, however, has not completely ruled out drafting in a fourth Newcastle player, £38m winger Harvey Barnes, who expressed an interest in switching allegiance before picking up a long term injury which will leave him on the sidelines at St James’ Park until the New Year.
And the Scotland boss admitted the tournament might come too soon for emerging Liverpool prospect Ben Doak.Clarke said: “It is good for the player that he’s going to get time to develop and come through at his own pace, instead of other people maybe pushing him ahead of where he should be.
