John Lennon's sons and Beatles mates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr honored the legend on Tuesday, which marked the 40th anniversary of his death.

The iconic musician was fatally shot in front of his New York City apartment on the evening of Dec 8, 1980, by Mark David Chapman.

He was 40. "A sad sad day but remembering my friend John with the great joy he brought to the world. I will always be proud and happy to have known and worked with this incredible Scouser!
