Hollywood actor Jim Carrey and Handmaid's Tale author Margaret Atwood are among 100 Canadians newly-banned from entering Russia  in response to sanctions against the country by Canada.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Liar Liar star Carrey, 60, author and poet Atwood, 82, and Amy Knight, 77, a noted historian of the KGB, were among the well-known names on the banned list.The trio, along with another 97 Canadians , many of whom are connected to ethnic Ukrainian organizations, were banned because of involvement in 'formation of (Canada's) aggressively anti-Russian course', said a ministry spokesman.Writer and filmmaker David Bezmozgis, 49, and Bones actress Kathryne Winnick.

44, are also among the Canadians on the list. She later tweeted: 'Dang! @JimCarrey and I had planned a little naughty weekend getaway in Moscow. Guess it will have to be Kyiv instead.Carrey responded: 'Yes @MargaretAtwood, I’m afraid the worst has happened.
