Jet2 has issued a travel warning to passengers as a major wildfire continues to rage across Athens. Hundreds of people have been evacuated in and around the Greek capital and at least one person has died due to the blaze.
The fire started on Sunday near Lake Marathon, about 35 kilometres (22 miles) north east of Athens before reaching the city’s suburbs.
Hundreds of firefighters have been deployed to battle the blaze, although strong winds hindered water-dropping plans. Several countries including France, Turkey and the Czech Republic have all offered firefighting assistance to tackle the wildfire.
It has affected around 10,000 hectares of land, according to satellite images from Greece’s National Observatory. READ MORE: Manchester Airport delays and cancellations on August 13 - full list Repeated heatwaves have left pine forests tinder-dry this summer.
