Jermain Defoe has revealed a tearful phone call with his mother after the killing of George Floyd. The 46-year-old died in Minnesota last month after a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck for close to nine minutes.Two separate coroner's reports have determined the cause of death to be homicide, with Chauvin charged with alleged second degree murder.

The killing has sparked protests across the US and in other countries, with white British people also being asked to reflect on the systemic racism in society.
