The heartbroken family of British teenager Jay Slater has made a special request for their son's funeral, after UK coroners announced his cause of death. .The 19 year old went missing in the Canary Islands in mid-June and was found four weeks later after frantic searches.The apprentice bricklayer was in Tenerife with friends for his first holiday abroad.The trio, including Lucy Law and Brad Hargreaves, visited a rave before Jay vanished in a mountainous region of the holiday island.
Jay's body was flown back to the UK in the first week of August and his funeral is expected to take place on August 10. His mum Debbie Duncan, 55, dad Warren, 58, and Jay's brother Zak, 24, all returned home from the island at the same time, reports Birmingham Live.
A post mortem in the UK confirmed that Jay died from traumatic head injuries, consistent with a fall from height.The coroner's report said his death would have been instant.
Jay's family shared a tribute to the teen, saying: "A loving son of Debbie and Warren, a cherished brother of Zak and brother in law of Jessica, a treasured grandson of Dawn, June and the late Dougie, a much loved nephew of Glen and Katie, a dear cousin of Maddie and Tillie and a loyal friend to many." Dozens of mourners gathered outside their local church to pay their respects as his body arrived back in his hometown, releasing blue balloons in his memory.
