Jason Bateman Reveals Matt Damon Pitched Himself For ‘Arrested Development’ Movie

Although Jason Bateman has little hope for an Arrested Development movie, other Hollywood parties are definitely interested.

The Golden Globe nominee recently revealed that Matt Damon pitched a cameo for himself in a potential feature adaptation of the Mitchell Hurwitz-created sitcom, which ran for three seasons on Fox from 2003 to 2006 before a two-season revival on Netflix that stretched from 2013 to 2019. “I remember Matt Damon coming up to me at—I think it was like a Golden Globes or something—and I was so excited to meet him and, and he was a huge fan of Arrested Development,” he recalled on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast. “And he was saying, ‘You know, I really think I could play, because I hear you guys are doing the movie, I think I could—can I play you?'” Bateman noted that Hurwitz “was thinking the story of the Arrested Development movie would be that in the show, Hollywood wanted to make a movie about [the Bluth family], and we certainly couldn’t play ourselves, because we’re not actors.” The cameo would have had Bateman’s Michael Bluth “on set, watching Matt Damon play Michael Bluth and be so excited.” “Of course, David Cross would play Tobias in the film as well, because he was an actor,” Bateman explained of Cross’ character, who frequently fumbles as an aspiring actor on the show.

Despite any fan interest in an Arrested Development movie, Bateman isn’t confident in the followup. “I don’t think anybody gives a s—, I think it’s done,” he said.
