Alan Hutton can almost hear his old Aston Villa gaffer Steve Bruce shouting at him. Because he reckons if he had tried to replicate some of the goals James Tavernier has produced at Rangers, he would have been SUBBED by his old boss.
Hutton can only laugh at the Ibrox skipper’s statistics from right-back “It’s mental,” he says. “I think I scored five goals in my career.
He has scored 117 for Rangers.” Hutton is a huge admirer of Tavernier, having previously played in that position for Gers. The captain’s numbers, in terms of goals and assists, is extraordinary and that’s why he was recently inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.
Regularly, Tavernier is on hand in the opposition box to score from a delivery by Rangers’ other full-back Borna Barisic. But Hutton knows if he had tried that while he was in the Premier League, Bruce would have hauled him off the pitch.
