Jack Wilshere has revealed how close he came to snubbing the chance to join Arsenal's famous youth academy when was playing for Luton's youth team as a nine-year-old.
Wilshere was born in Stevenage, and lived in nearby Hitchin where he grew up a boyhood fan of West Ham who idolised Paolo Di Canio.
But it was Arsenal not the Hammers who came calling first, with the Gunners having been alerted to the playmaker's precocious talent before he had even hit double figures, age wise.
Most players would jump at the chance to join one of the Premier League's most revered youth academies, but apparently not Wilshere.
