Emmerdale viewers were left completely gobsmacked as tonight's instalment of the ITV soap finally appeared to reveal the truth about Amit Sharma (played by Anil Goutam).

For months now, Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) has been convinced that his biological father had secretly murdered his uncle and adopted father Rishi Sharma.

The horrific scenes unfolded on Jai and Laurel's (Charlotte Bellamy) wedding day last year, when Rishi was found lying dead at the bottom of his stairs.

It later transpired that Amit had arrived in the village that day and after a number of clues emerged, Jai believed that Amit must have been the one to kill his adopted dad.
