Residents have spoken of their horror in the wake of a ‘targeted’ shooting in Leigh. Police were called to St Helen’s Road to reports of a firearms discharge at 1am this morning on Sunday (September 24).
Officers say the shots came as a retaliation to an attempted assault using a stolen vehicle. It’s believed the shooting was isolated. They remain in custody for questioning, GMP confirmed. Forensic and tactical aid officers spent all day combing the street and front gardens for evidence.
Detectives could be seen carrying out door-to-door enquiries while police dogs also searched the area. Neighbours living on the “quiet” street have now spoken of their shock following the terrifying incident.
