Iceland sparks row over 'picky bits' summer tea

In this warm weather, a hot tea can seem a bit too much. Nobody wants to be standing in the kitchen over a hot stove, let alone tucking into a big hearty meal.

So it's no surprise that many people turn to nibbles in the garden as an alternative option. What we call that tea is the source of much debate however, and supermarket Iceland seems to have sparked a row over what customers refer to it as. Read more: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community In a post on social media, it said: "Waitrose mums call it 'mezze', M&S mums call it a 'grazing board', Sainsbury's mums call it 'tapas', Iceland mums, keeping it real call it 'picky bits for tea'." Aside from the few people asking 'what do dads call it?' - a dig at the retailer for suggesting only mums do the cooking - the post was inundated with comments from people saying it's not called any of those things. "I call it a mish mash tea," said one. "Never heard anyone say picky bits for tea, most people I know would say nibbles," said another.

A third added: "Pick & Mix tea in our house," with another adding: "Picnic tea or a spread." Other suggestions included 'snacky tea', 'freezer tapas' and 'freezer surprise'.

Despite the debate, there were still plenty of people agreeing that Iceland mums do indeed call it 'picky bits'. "Yep....definitely picky bits!!...my kids love that tea," said one. "Got to love a picky tea," said another. "No other name for it in my opinion." Do you have a 'picky bits' tea in the summer?
