Staycations don’t get more quintessentially Scottish than staying at Cameron House, a huge mansion-style hotel on the banks of Loch Lomond, about 40 minutes north of Glasgow.The staff wear tartan uniforms, there’s a towering wall of whiskies to sample in the bar, and if you arrive on a Friday or Saturday you’ll be welcomed with bagpipes at the hotel’s grand entrance.

Dating back to the early 18th century, the building has an interesting history, even operating as a bear park at one point before becoming the standout destination it is today for weekenders and holidaymakers from around the world.

Keen for more of a serene than a splashy experience, we spent a morning at the latter, where we enjoyed the steam rooms, bubbly pools and a detoxifying rasul mud treatment before a fresh and tasty lunch in the spa’s café.The food at Cameron House You won’t be short on options for eating and drinking at Cameron House, with three restaurants and three bars.
