People from disgraced Labour MP Andrew Gwynne's hometown of Denton have shared their disgust and disbelief after it was revealed that he allegedly exchanged a series of racist and sexist remarks in a WhatsApp chat.
The messages were published in the Mail on Sunday, and included one in which Mr Gwynne allegedly said he hoped an elderly constituent who had contacted him about bin collections would die before the next election.
The MP for Gorton and Denton was the health minister in Keir Starmer's government, but has been sacked from the position and had the whip suspended following the publication of the messages this weekend.
Mr Gwynne has since apologised for what he called the 'badly misjudged' remarks. In a statement on X, Mr Gwynne wrote: "I deeply regret my badly misjudged comments and apologise for any offense I’ve caused.
