A staggering 1,294 patients were stuck in the back of ambulances parked outside the city's A&Es in the past six weeks. It's a damning sign of the pressure city hospitals are under as they face high demand for critical services while trying to deal with rising coronavirus cases.
Hospitals in the West Midlands city are also grappling with a backlog of outpatient appointments and elective operations. The shocking figures emerged from a Freedom of Information request to West Midlands Ambulance Service by Birmingham Live.
