Huge fire sees over 1,000 Salford homes hit by power cut

More than 1,000 properties were hit by a power cut following a fire in Salford overnight. Crews descended on Lower Broughton Road in the early hours of this morning (November 7).

Images from the scene show an electrics box up in flames, with several firefighters working at the scene. An area was taped off by the fire service as they worked to tackle the blaze.

The fire caused a power cut for residents in the surrounding area. In a post on X at 2.19am, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Our crews are currently responding to a fire on Lower Broughton Road, Salford. Our firefighters are working with colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and Electricity North West at the scene." Electricity North West confirmed that a power cut was 'affecting 1,015 properties in the M6 and M7 postcodes' in a separate post on X at 2.31am.
