The shooting at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas six years ago is the most deadly mass shooting committed by a single individual in United States history.

The incident saw Stephen Paddock open fire on a crowd of 22,000 people who had gathered to watch the show at Las Vegas Village - a 15 acre open-air venue located northeast of Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino - on October 1, 2017.

Paddock, 64, had booked out two connected rooms on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel - both of which overlooked the festival site. He fired more than 1,000 bullets at the crowd between 10.05 pm and 10.15 pm before the shooting then suddenly stopped. Police did not gain entry into Paddock's room until 11.20 pm after they used explosives to blow down his door which he had bolted shut.
