Honda to suspend production at UK plant sending workers home due to Brexit delays

Honda is to suspend production at its Swindon-based factory because of a shortage of stock caused by delays in getting parts into Britain in the run-up to Brexit.

The Japanese carmaker said the decision was "due to transport-related parts delays" as ports are hit by demand and coronavirus restrictions.

The plant operates on a "just in time" production system, where parts arrive as and when they are needed. Honda told employees that it is currently experiencing delays and congestion at UK ports. "The situation is currently being monitored with a view to restart production as soon as possible," Honda told the BBC.
