A hero dad saved his two-year-old son from drowning before getting trapped in ‘sinking sand’ on a Scots beach. Jay Forbes, 26, had a terrifying experience at Ayr Beach after his son, JJ Forbes, fell into a 5ft hole of water.

The two-year-old thought he was exploring a puddle on Saturday at around 12.30pm when he landed face down in the dirty sea water.

Shocked dad Jay, from Ayr, then heard his wife Haley Forbes, 27, screaming and rushed to yank his little boy out the water - but fell in himself.With the water up to his waist, he passed JJ to his distraught mum before realising he was stuck in sinking sand.Panicked Hayley was unable to pull her struggling husband free before a dog walker passing by stepped up and helped him escape.Jay told the Daily Record: “There was no time to think about how I felt, I did what any parent would have done in that situation.”My priority was to pull my son from the water.“My son, just like any other two year old, saw a puddle and decided to go over to explore.“Then my wife started screaming… 'He is face down' 'get him get him'.“I ran over to my son who was under the water but when I went to grab him I fell in as well up to my waist.If you do find yourself stuck in sinking sand it is important to stay calm.Try to lean back so that the weight of your body is distributed over a wider area.
