Heathrow introducing 20-second coronavirus tests to 'unlock' travel from quarantines

Brits could be freed from the worry of quarantining after holidays abroad by a 20-second coronavirus test. The pioneering method of screening passengers on arrival and departure is being trialled at Heathrow Airport.

Heathrow, badly hit by the huge decline in air travel triggered by the coronavirus pandemic, believes the tests have the potential to "unlock travel".

The airport is working with Oxford and Manchester universities on three separate cutting-edge tests. It is hoped that if the 20-second tests prove reliable, a successful trial would enable countries to be removed from the government's "red list".

The government imposed a 14-day quarantine on returning travellers to the UK in June, with some countries with low coronavirus rates
