Edward Christopher Sheeran, MBE (born 17 February 1991) is an English singer-songwriter. In early 2011, Sheeran independently released the extended play, No. 5 Collaborations Project. After signing with Asylum Records, his debut album, + (pronounced "plus"), was released in September 2011. It topped the UK and Australian charts, reached number five in the US, and has since been certified eight-times platinum in the UK.
The album contains the single "The A Team", which earned him the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. In 2012, Sheeran won the Brit Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. "The A Team" was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards, where he performed the song with Elton John.
Harry Styles swept The BRITs on Saturday night as he took home four awards, including the sought after Album Of The Year, following the huge success of his third effort, Harry's House.
The former One Direction star was up against some stiff competition in the categories and managed to beat Scottish stars Lewis Capaldi and LF System to Song Of The Year at The BRITs.
Ed Sheeran, Elton John, George Ezra, Sam Smith, and more were also up for the award before losing out to the 28-year-old. During his acceptance speech, the Watermelon Sugar star included a thank you to Lewis, 26, as he accepted the award.
Taking to the stage, he began: “Hello! This album and this song was the most fun I’ve ever had making music. "I want to thank [Sony Music CEO] Rob Stringer for lending me his house to record this in, write it in. "He continues: "I want to thank Tom [Hull, Kid Harpoon] and Tyler Johnson [co-writer] and everyone, all my friends who support me … Thank you to everyone who listened and thank you Lewis,” he says, gesturing towards Lewis Capaldi.
