The coronation of King Charles could be "overshadowed" by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, royal commentator Daniela Esler has warned.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed they have received an invitation to the big day - but they are yet to announce whether or not they will be attending.
Discussing the attendance of the couple, royal expert Daniela has suggested that the King is "damned if the Sussexes do come, and equally damned if they don’t." And while Buckingham Palace reportedly has two plans in place for the coronation, depending on whether Harry and Meghan attend or not, the questions surrounding their attendance could very well overshadow the occasion regardless of their presence.
Writing for the New Zealand Herald, Daniela argues that should Harry and Meghan attend so that "their presence back in the royal midst will be the only story people really care about." She continued: "Charles will be in obvious danger of having his august moment overshadowed by his pouty, lip-jutting son and his couture-clad daughter-in-law. "But … he is equally stuffed if they don’t turn up in London.Their absence inside Westminster Abbey would only really drive home how badly broken things are inside the House of Windsor." While Harry and Meghan may be at risk of drawing attention away from the King, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has argued that they have "no option" but to attend the coronation.
