Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have changed their kids' full names on their new Sussex website, putting an end to a 64-year-old royal naming tradition. The former royal couple hit headlines this week when they quietly launched their new site, in which they are prominently referred to as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The use of their royal titles raised eyebrows among fans but royal watchers have now noticed that little Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet's names have had a makeover too.Instead of being known as Mountbatten-Windsors, Archie and Lilibet have been given the surname Sussex since the Coronation.
The new look website was launched on Monday, replacing their old Archewell site, the Mirror reports. The surname Mountbatten-Windsor was decreed by the Privy Counsel - the official advisors to the late Queen Elizabeth II - in 1960 and was given to male-line descendants of Her Majesty and Prince Philip.
A source told The Times: “The reality behind the new site is very simple — it’s a hub for the work the Sussexes do and it reflects the fact the family have, since the King’s coronation, the same surname for the first time.
That’s a big deal for any family. It represents their unification and it’s a proud moment.” Meanwhile their latest move to use their kid's royal titles on their new website has been branded as "surprising".The decision has divided fans and sparked a debate that the Sussexes are boasting of their links to the Royal Family for commercial benefit.
