Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers says he's back at work and is feeling much healthier after his cancer battle thanks to a particular kind of food. The TV chef was diagnosed with cancer last year and underwent chemotherapy to treat it, losing his hair in the process as well as his appetite and a lot of weight. But now he's bounced back and is feeling "fabulous" as he's been eating a diet rich in foods which boost the immune system - including plenty of fermented cabbage. The chef, 65, told the Mirror: “It’s unbelievable to be back.
Every breath I take now is just refreshing and fabulous. It varies really what food I’ve been having.“At some stage I need to put weight on but I need things to boost my immune system.
So I’ve been eating a lot of sauerkraut. "It really works for me – sauerkraut, kimchi and meatballs. I live by it. It’s a probiotic and good for the immune system and keeps you regular.
I love it. It’s the healthy eating that does it.”Dave and Si King, other half of the Hairy Bikers, were named Personalities of the Year at the annual Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards earlier this week. The chef is now recovering after months of chemotherapy during which he was barely able to eat.
