Bosses at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan have told people to stay away from A&E unless they're in a 'life or limb threatening' condition.

The hospital on Wigan Lane has issued a warning to patients saying the department is 'extremely busy'. Residents should only attend if their condition is 'life or limb-threatening'.

Medics, bosses said, need to keep the area free for 'those who really need it'. Anybody in need of care has been asked to contact 111.
