A gran who scooped £2.7million on the lottery is still working night shifts at M&S despite her jackpot win. Elaine Thompson, 64, said she might be “bonkers” but it would “drive me nuts” to stay at home doing nothing.

The mum-of-two, who won the jackpot in 1995, is still working a 25-hour week in the food hall, starting at 2am. She has done this for the past seven years at her local store in Wallsend, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

The millionaire didn’t even tell her colleagues she had struck gold for the first two years of the job. She told the Daily Mirror : “I’m sure I will go down as completely bonkers but I’ve had a ball.” She added: “I have a job because I can’t stay in the house, it would drive me nuts. “I love it.
