Leading MP Julian Knight has slammed Premier League plans to ask top-flight players to take pay cuts or wage deferrals. Premier League clubs have put forward proposals for players to accept a 30 per cent wage cut and deferrals across the board to help the fight against the coronavirus crisis.

The decision was agreed following a Premier League board meeting held via video conference call today and the idea will be voted on tomorrow in another meeting with the Professional Footballers Association.

The meeting also voted in favour of making a £125m relief fund available to EFL and National League clubs in a bid to help them survive the financial meltdown caused by the pandemic - as well as donating £20m to the NHS.
